The
The LVR-Freilichtmuseum Lindlar takes its visitors into the past and conveys multifaceted impressions of rural life in the Bergisches Land region over the last three centuries. On an extensive, 30-hectare site, a reconstructed cultural landscape awaits you with over 40 historical buildings that were dismantled at their original locations and rebuilt here.
The museum offers diverse insights into traditional crafts such as rope making, blacksmithing, housekeeping, ribbon weaving, agriculture and beekeeping. Craftsmen demonstrate old working techniques and impart interesting facts about the history of the houses, bringing the working world of the past back to life. Permanent exhibitions in the museum buildings present interesting topics on regional history and culture on around 500 m² of exhibition space.
Special attention is paid to the museum grounds themselves, which have been consistently restored to the state between 1850 and 1900. Old paths have been relaid, gardens established and arable plots restored to their original size.
The LVR-Freilichtmuseum Lindlar sees itself as an extracurricular learning location and offers an extensive program for children, schools and groups. This includes hands-on activities, holiday programs, ecological seminars and the opportunity to stay overnight in the Gut Dahl museum hostel.
A central value of the museum is sustainability. As a development and environmental policy action program for the 21st century, the Agenda 2030 places sustainable development at the center of interest. The museum conveys the development and environmental goals of the Agenda 2030 and focuses on waste prevention, biodiversity and the imparting of everyday skills. Modern new buildings on the site, which are resource-efficiently constructed from wood, clay or straw, impressively demonstrate this.
The support association of the LVR-Freilichtmuseum Lindlar supports the work of the museum and, with its approximately 1,500 members, contributes to the preservation of the region's cultural heritage. Volunteer helpers are an important part of the museum and make a significant contribution to the implementation of many projects.
The LVR-Freilichtmuseum Lindlar is a member of the Bergische Museen network and maintains numerous partnerships and cooperations.
