Margaretenhort gGmbH

The Margaretenhort gGmbH is an independent provider of child and youth services as well as social psychiatric care, based in Hamburg-Harburg. Under the motto "alle.gleich.anders" (all.equal.different), the Margaretenhort supports children, adolescents, young adults, adults, and families.

The company offers a wide range of services, including:

• Social space offers: Offers that take place in the direct living environment of people.
• School cooperations: Cooperation with schools to promote children and adolescents in the best possible way.
• Help with education: Individual support for families in difficult life situations.
• Parent-child living arrangements: Supervised living for parents with their children.
• Services for Social Participation: Offers that enable people with disabilities to participate in social life.
• KipeE (Children of mentally ill parents): Support for children and families in which a parent is mentally ill.
• Leaving Care: Support for young people in the transition to independent living after youth welfare.
• Trauma pedagogy: Pedagogical approaches that address the needs of traumatized people.
• Early Help: Support for families with infants and toddlers.

The main mission of the Margaretenhort is to accept people in their uniqueness, to understand and respect them as they are. The company offers individual support that helps people feel confident in their actions. In doing so, the Margaretenhort deals responsibly and reliably with the trust placed in it.

The Margaretenhort looks back on over a hundred years of experience and works with a variety of pedagogical approaches and methods. Through the active engagement with current and specialist political issues, the company makes a positive and effective contribution to social change.

An important aspect of the work of the Margaretenhort is the self-determination of the users. This is also reflected in the designation of the target group as "Nutzer*innen" (users). In order to strengthen the self-representation of the users, a user parliament was founded in January 2024. This parliament is the self- and interest representation for all users from the (partially) stationary offers of the Margaretenhort.

The Margaretenhort attaches great importance to gender-sensitive, non-discriminatory and non-violent communication. In the course of developing a protection concept, principles of action were formulated, which every employee must follow both in institutional interaction and in dealing with the users. These principles include, among other things, protection against violence and abuse of power, appreciation and respect for the users, as well as the perception and reaction to signs of child endangerment.
