Heimatlicht-Hamburg is a multi-ethnic family, child, and youth welfare organization in Hamburg that specializes in supporting people with and without a migration background. A particular focus is on people with a Central Asian cultural background.

Heimatlicht-Hamburg offers a variety of assistance to overcome overwhelm, loneliness, and helplessness. The organization sees itself as a bridge that enables people to find their way in their new home of Hamburg, make friends, and receive support in everyday life.

The offer includes:

• Help with language barriers: Accompaniment to authorities and doctors, support with applications and mediation of language partnerships.
• Help with conflicts: Detection and management of conflicts within the family and in the social environment.
• Overcoming loneliness and isolation: Celebrating festivals together, promoting contacts and finding leisure activities.

An important aspect of the work of Heimatlicht-Hamburg is the consideration of the cultural backgrounds of the clients. Through understanding the values, customs, and traditions of Central Asia, a trusting cooperation can be built, which makes it possible to reduce fears, remove hurdles, and promote a better connection to the new home.

The founder of Heimatlicht-Hamburg, Sofia Laurent, has migration experience herself and would like to use her personal experiences to help other people integrate into Germany.

Heimatlicht-Hamburg works closely with the youth welfare offices to ensure that the assistance offered can be used free of charge and reliably. With its outpatient assistance in accordance with §§ 30, 31 SGB VIII, the institution is aimed at families, children, adolescents and young adults with and without a migration background throughout the Hamburg region.

The mission of Heimatlicht-Hamburg is to support people in finding their way in Hamburg and leading a fulfilling life. The values of the institution include trust, respect, cultural sensitivity and the promotion of integration and social participation.
