The Montessori-Arbeitskreis Stralsund e.V., founded in 1991, operates four educational facilities in Stralsund and on RĂĽgen, which accompany children from 0 to 10 years in trusting, secure environments.[1][3] As a sponsoring association, it promotes a holistic development according to Montessori, Freinet and Freiland pedagogy, which unfolds individual talents and strengthens social skills.[1][3][4]
In addition, the association cooperates with the Montessori-Grundschule "Lambert Steinwich", the only state-recognized Montessori primary school in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for over 30 years. Here, Freiarbeit is in the foreground, including support for children with learning difficulties, impairments or migration background.[5][6]
The main mission is: "Children need children, living and learning together." Facilities are places of trust, security and loving care, where each child grows at their own pace.[1][2] Core values are individuality ("Help me to do it myself!"), independence, tolerance and respect in socio-culturally diverse groups. Trained specialists with Montessori diplomas recognize developmental needs, promote language skills – even without words through materials – and integrate children with special needs.[2][3][4] A pedagogical management, external specialist advice and voluntary board ensure quality and further development.[3]
Although explicit sustainability goals are not described in detail, the pedagogies embody natural, resource-saving approaches: Freiland pedagogy emphasizes connection to nature, Montessori materials are high-quality and durable (formerly handmade).[1][3][4] Expansion buildings such as in GrĂĽnhufe show commitment to growing needs and social inclusion.[7] The association is oriented towards legal standards such as KJHG and GS M/V for sustainable child support.[4]
