The Rasselbande Elmschenhagen e.V. is an established daycare center in Kiel-Elmschenhagen that has been offering loving, flexible and needs-based childcare for over 30 years. As a registered association, it operates an age-mixed group with a maximum of 15 children aged 1.5 to 6 years, led by a dedicated team of educators, social workers and early childhood educators[1][4][7][8]. The facility serves as a central point of contact for families from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and promotes an inclusive coexistence in the district[2][8].
The Rasselbande offers small groups with individual care that are tailored to the children's developmental level. The groups include:
Of particular note are remedial education offers such as playful promotion of language, motor skills and perception through psychomotor skills, first group experiences in a safe environment, as well as movement and nature offers[9]. Daily activities include gym use, library visits and excursions that connect children with their district and strengthen social skills[2].
Under the motto "Being there for children. Thinking along for parents.", the Rasselbande was founded in 1994/1995 as a parent initiative and has developed into a non-profit company with a clear vision: Every child deserves a place where they feel safe, seen and accepted.[1][3]. The facility emphasizes flexible care that adapts to the reality of families' lives and creates genuine partnerships with parents through close cooperation[1][2].
Education as a life process is at the center: children learn curiously, courageously and self-determined through playful, experience-oriented learning. Movement, creativity, language and trusting relationships promote holistic development, self-confidence and empathy. Individual perspectives are valued, diversity enriches coexistence, and prejudices are dismantled in everyday life[2][5]. The pedagogical concept is based on intensive observation of sensitive phases in order to specifically design the environment and offers[3].
As district strengthening, the Rasselbande is closely integrated into Kiel-Elmschenhagen: it reflects diversity, offers space for participation and relieves families through networks with parent initiatives and specialist agencies. Joint projects promote integration regardless of origin or background and create a supportive environment for young and old[2].
From humble beginnings, the Rasselbande has continued to develop: from its founding to expansions (2001), sister companies (2005) to several locations and over 140 employees today. It remains a second home for generations of children, where creativity is unfolded and strengths are promoted[1][3]. The vision extends into the future: as a place of trust, development and future design, it relieves families, strengthens children and offers adults fulfilling tasks[1].
The Rasselbande embodies attitude, heart and innovation in childcare - always child-centered, familiar and community-oriented. (2487 characters incl. spaces)
