Universitätsmedizin Göttingen

The Universitätsmedizin Göttingen (UMG) is a leading university medical institution in Germany, uniting the Medical Faculty with research and teaching as well as the University Hospital with patient care under one roof. With around 7,900 employees, the UMG is one of the most important employers in southern Lower Saxony and ensures comprehensive maximum care with approximately 67 clinics, institutes and departments as well as around 1,450 beds. Every year, over 66,000 patients are treated as inpatients and a total of around 290,000 as outpatients and inpatients, making the UMG a central point of contact for modern medical care far beyond regional borders.

The Medical Faculty, one of the oldest and largest in Germany, offers around 3,600 students an excellent education in the degree programs of Human Medicine, Dentistry, Molecular Medicine and Cardiovascular Science. In addition, the UMG trains over 700 young people in 19 apprenticeships and eight technical schools in the healthcare sector, thereby promoting the development of new job profiles and degree programs through the innovative Gesundheitscampus Göttingen.

Research at the UMG is characterized by international cutting-edge research, particularly in the areas of neuroscience, cardiovascular research and oncology. Through the close link between research, teaching and patient care, innovative therapy options are integrated into patient care in a timely manner. Another focus is the transfer, which promotes the implementation of research results into new drugs, diagnostic procedures and medical devices.

The UMG is pursuing a future-oriented structural development with a plan until 2036 to position itself as one of the most modern medical campuses in Germany. Sustainability and innovation are integral components of the strategic orientation. The continuous improvement of the quality of care is just as much in focus as the promotion of an attractive working and learning environment.
