Sea-Watch e.V. is a non-profit initiative dedicated to the civilian sea rescue of people on the move. In response to the humanitarian catastrophe in the Central Mediterranean, Sea-Watch provides emergency aid, advocates for state-led rescue operations, and promotes safe and legal escape routes. We are politically and religiously independent and financed exclusively through donations.
Our vision is a world in which borders, racism, injustice, and inequality have been overcome and all people are able to live and move in a self-determined, free, and safe way.
The IT Department
The Sea-Watch IT team is an innovative department consisting of around 20 paid staff, freelancers, and volunteers working primarily remotely. The team is responsible for all of Sea-Watch’s IT infrastructure, both onshore and as part of our ship and airborne operations. We provide and develop the tools, systems, and support that enable our activists and staff to work securely, effectively, and sustainably. Whenever possible, we prioritize Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and self-hosted solutions. We are looking for a position of Team Coordination (f/m/d) with up to 30 hours per week, preferably in Berlin or hybrid remote. The position is initially limited to 18 months with the possibility of extension.

Working closely with the Technical Lead and Team Rep, you will play a key role in supporting the team’s development, coordination, and communication. You will help create the structures, processes, and culture that enable effective collaboration across a distributed and diverse IT team.
A central focus of the role is fostering transparent, participatory, and sustainable ways of working while ensuring that information, resources, and priorities are aligned across the team and the wider organization.

Act as a first point of contact for internal stakeholders, users, and departments
Represent IT team perspectives within the wider organization
Translate organizational requirements into actionable collaboration with the IT team
Communicate relevant updates and decisions between the organization and the IT department
Represent the IT department within the organization, facilitating communication and alignment between departments and decision-making bodies and representation
Your profile
At least three years of professional experience in team coordination, team leadership, or project leadership
Experience in people management and team development, ideally in flat, participatory, or self-organized structures
Strong communication, facilitation, and organizational skills
Ability to mediate between different interests and build constructive solutions
Openness to working in democratic and non-hierarchical organizational structures
High level of empathy, emotional intelligence, and the ability to motivate and support others
Structured, reliable, and self-organized way of working
Experience developing and improving processes, workflows, and team structures
Experience with budgeting and resource planning is an advantage
Very good written and spoken English.
Desirable Qualifications
Basic understanding of IT infrastructure and digital systems
Experience working in volunteer-driven organizations, NGOs, political organizations, or open-source communities
Experience coordinating distributed and remote teams
Interdisciplinary Competencies

Transparent and organization-wide salary model.
Base salary: 2.550 € gross/month for 30 hours/week (Base salary 3.400 € gross/month 40h/week)
Additional salary increases based on internal criteria, relevant professional experience, years of service, family-related needs, and disability status
Adjustment is planned for January 2027 (Base salary: 3.520 € gross)
