The Abwasserzweckverband Oyten/Ottersberg (AZV) is a public-law association of the municipalities of Oyten and Ottersberg. Since 1981, the AZV has operated a joint wastewater treatment plant designed for 75,000 population equivalents. Since 2022, the AZV has assumed full responsibility for wastewater disposal in both municipalities, including the operation and maintenance of a 268 km long sewer network with approximately 100 pumping stations.

Sustainability and Environmental Protection
The AZV Oyten/Ottersberg attaches great importance to sustainability and environmental protection. The goal is to protect groundwater and soil from contamination and to minimize the environmental impact of wastewater. The sludge produced during sewage sludge treatment is thermally recycled. The digester gas obtained in the digestion tower is used in two microturbines as a regenerative energy source for electricity and heat generation.
The AZV also appeals to citizens to actively contribute to environmental protection by not throwing waste into the toilet, not pouring toxic substances and paint residues into the sink, using washing and cleaning agents sparingly, and consuming as little water as possible.
