The Diakonisches Werk Württemberg is the central welfare association of the Protestant churches in Württemberg, based in Stuttgart, and is one of the largest social organizations in Baden-Württemberg. As an umbrella organization, it comprises around 1,400 facilities and services that support people in various life situations with full commitment. With over 50,000 full-time employees and approximately 35,000 volunteers, Diakonie Württemberg reaches more than 200,000 people daily and supports a total of over 270,000 people[1][2][3].
The range of supported target groups is diverse: children, adolescents and families, senior citizens and people in need of care, people with disabilities, the unemployed, the homeless, the over-indebted, people with addictions, migrants, refugees, as well as women and girls in need find help and support at Diakonie Württemberg[1][2]. The services range from advice and support to care and supervision to integration and education projects.
The main mission of Diakonie Württemberg is to meet people in need with Christian charity and to promote social justice. As the leading association of independent welfare, it is committed to a society in which solidarity, respect and participation are central. Fair working conditions, adherence to collective agreements and social commitment are central values of the association[1][2][4].
Sustainability and social responsibility are key to the work of Diakonie Württemberg. It participates in international training projects that qualify young people from crisis regions such as Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, Ukraine and Armenia for skilled worker training in geriatric care in Germany. The "Debora" program also secures the organization's future viability by promoting diversity among specialists and managers, in particular through better reconciliation of family, work and management, and the strengthening of women in management positions[4].
As part of the Protestant Church, Diakonie Württemberg is part of a Germany-wide network, the highest level of which is Diakonie Deutschland. Through this connection, the organization can promote social innovations at the national and regional level and build sustainable structures for social engagement.
In summary, Diakonie Württemberg is a pillar of social work with a Christian mission, which professionally supports people in very different life situations, promotes social interaction and continuously works on forward-looking solutions for social challenges. Its comprehensive services combine professional help, voluntary commitment and sustainable social action in a strong network.
