The Katholische Gesamtkirchengemeinde Mannheim (GKG) is a corporation under public law that functions as an umbrella organization for the seven Catholic parishes in Mannheim. It advises and supports these parishes in a variety of matters, including personnel, finances, organization, law and construction.
A particular focus is on the kindergarten system. The GKG is responsible for 38 kindergartens in Mannheim and the Rhine-Neckar region. It coordinates and manages the facilities, represents the interests of the providers vis-à-vis the city of Mannheim and is committed to high quality standards, for example in the areas of orientation plan and language support.
The GKG also takes over the management for all its kindergartens. In addition, it is the sponsor of various institutions, including the Alfred-Delp-Haus (ADH), a marriage, family and life counseling center (EFL), the student office, the "Haus der Katholischen Kirche" with Citypastoral, the "Haus der Jugend", the school social work, the youth church Samuel, the "Prälat Karl Nikolaus Haus" and the dormitory "Emilie-Hucht-Haus".
The GKG is involved in church development and offers administrative support for the seven parishes. The church registry office is responsible for civil status and registration matters. Building management is also one of the GKG's tasks.
The bodies of the GKG are the Gesamtstiftungsrat (Joint Foundation Council), the Verwaltungsausschuss (Administrative Committee) and the managing director. The GKG employs over 100 people in the office, the institutions it sponsors and the deanery.
