MITRA bilinguale Kindergärten gemeinnützige GmbH
The MITRA bilinguale Kindergärten gGmbH is a non-profit provider of daycare centers, specializing since 2014 in the promotion of multilingualism, intercultural education, and child-centered pedagogy. Originating from a parent initiative in 1993, MITRA now operates eleven bilingual kindergartens in Berlin, Köln, Leipzig and Potsdam. The Kitas offer bilingual education, especially German-Russian programs, to strengthen linguistic and cultural diversity as a valuable resource. Children with different linguistic and cultural backgrounds are cared for together, which promotes social competence and understanding of other cultures[1][3].
The pedagogical concept focuses on the individual development of the children. It specifically supports language development as well as the promotion of intercultural skills and tolerance. Close cooperation with parents through regular parent evenings and opportunities for participation is an essential part of the work. In addition, MITRA cooperates closely with schools, especially the Lomonossow-Schulen, and actively shapes educational transitions[1][3].
Sustainability is an integral part of the MITRA concept, with the promotion of environmental awareness and sustainable action already anchored in everyday kindergarten life. The kindergartens offer child-friendly rooms with music, sports and garden facilities, which also encourage natural learning. Through this holistic environment, children are given a foundation for a conscious and appreciative attitude towards nature and the environment[2].
In summary, MITRA combines bilingual, intercultural education with an appreciative, family-oriented and sustainable pedagogy. In this way, children are enabled to freely develop their identity in a diverse society and at the same time develop openness and respect for other cultures. The promotion of multilingualism and cultural diversity is at the center, in order to strengthen important social and communicative skills at an early age and to contribute to an inclusive society[1][3].
