SALEM International is committed to Christian-humanitarian values, human rights and the Basic Law[4]. The organization's goal is to support people in the long term and sustainably improve their living situations, rather than moving from one hotspot to the next in the short term[9]. The guiding principle is to prepare children and young people in the best possible way for an independent and successful life in society[3].
SALEM International is active in the following areas[2]:
SALEM International works from drei Standorten in Deutschland (Stadtsteinach, Kovahl/Neestahl and Höchheim) as well as in the international countries Ecuador, Russia, Togo and Uganda[2]. The organization employs an average of around 137 people in Germany, while an additional 250 people worldwide work in independent SALEM facilities and projects[2].
The management consists of drei hauptamtlichen Direktoren: Samuel Müller (Acting Partner), Gerhard Lipfert (General Manager) and Heiko Weiß (General Manager)[1]. The organization is managed by a shareholders' meeting as the highest supervisory body, supported by an advisory board that advises and monitors the management[5].
SALEM International is recognized as a non-profit organization by the Bayreuth tax office and is exempt from corporation tax[2]. Social work in Germany is mainly financed by service fees from the public sector, while other activities are supported by private funds and donations[8]. In 2020, the organization spent around 4.77 million euros[2].
The organization is characterized by its langfristige Orientierung and its strong commitment to sustainable development. It not only works in individual projects, but also establishes permanent structures and partnerships to support people in disadvantaged situations.
In 2027, SALEM International plans to celebrate its 70-jährigen Jubiläums, which underlines the continuity and stability of the work. The company is constantly looking for committed employees and supporters to continue and expand its work[9].
