Das Selbstverwaltetes Jugendzentrum Fechenheim e.V. (Juz Fechenheim) is a traditional institution in the Frankfurt district of Fechenheim, which has been active since 1974. As a self-managed institution, the youth center places particular emphasis on the co-determination and participation of young people and young adults in the district. The facility is an open meeting place and offers numerous free activities for children and young people, with the exception of the Krabbelstube, which was set up for small children[1][4].

The core offerings include the Internet café "café connect!", which has served as an open meeting place for everyone from 10 to 18 years old since 2002. Here, young people can surf, chat, play, research homework, look for apprenticeships, write applications and practice for aptitude tests. In addition, homework support and application assistance are offered. Crisis situations are accompanied by initial counseling. The open meeting place also offers a girls' room, excursions, craft projects and other activities that can be co-designed by the visitors themselves[4].

Another central offer is the Krabbelstube, which has 12 places for children aged 1 to 3 years. The Krabbelstube was created because there was no adequate care for small children in the district for a long time. The children are cared for by qualified educators and a pedagogical staff member. The care times are from Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Krabbelstube is an important contribution to early childhood development and to strengthening the social fabric in the district[5].

The main mission of the youth center is to provide children and young people with a safe space for personal development, education, leisure activities and social participation. The values of the association are based on self-government, inclusion, solidarity and empowerment. It should be particularly emphasized that the offers - with the exception of the Krabbelstube - are generally free of charge. This enables all children and young people, regardless of their social background, to participate and have access to education and leisure activities[1][4].

In the area of sustainability, the youth center relies on the active involvement of the target groups in the design of the offers and everyday life in the youth center. The promotion of personal initiative, community spirit and social commitment is in the foreground. The facility contributes to social sustainability in the district through its educational programs, the integration of various population groups and the promotion of early childhood care. The Krabbelstube makes a sustainable contribution to educational justice by making early childhood education accessible to all children in the district[5][1].

In addition, the youth center promotes the personal development, creativity and sense of community of children and young people through regular projects, excursions and workshops. The open structure of the youth center makes it possible to respond flexibly to the needs and interests of the visitors and to address current social issues. Das Selbstverwaltetes Jugendzentrum Fechenheim e.V. is therefore not only an important part of the social infrastructure in Fechenheim, but also a place of cohesion, education and sustainability[1][4][5].
