VDV-Akademie GmbH

The VDV-Akademie is a registered association under the umbrella of the Verband Deutscher Verkehrsunternehmen (VDV) and was founded in 2001. It is supported by transport companies, educational institutions and personalities from industry, science and politics[3].

The main mission of the VDV-Akademie is to ensure the quality of training and further education in public passenger and rail freight transport. It develops educational products and sets standards for professional development in order to promote an industry-related system of professional qualifications[3]. Its activities are intended to give companies in the transport sector a competitive edge[3].

The VDV-Akademie offers a variety of educational programs and certifications. It has regional and nationwide competence centers that develop and conduct courses. The examination performance of the course participants is certified by the academy[3].

In the field of digital education, the VDV-Akademie relies on learning management systems (LMS) that offer flexibility, scalability and cost efficiency. These digital solutions enable employees to complete training courses regardless of location and time[3].

The VDV-Akademie is currently headed by Ruth Leyendecker as Managing Director, who succeeded the long-time boss Michael Weber-Wernz[5]. The academy attaches great importance to the qualification of employees at all levels and sees itself as playing a decisive role in the industry[5].
