Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD) promotes the exchange between science and society. With innovative formats, educational offerings, and networks, WiD strengthens science communication and inspires people for research. Together, they shape an open, democratic society.
Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD) is the central organization of science for science communication in Germany. Founded in 1999 on the initiative of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft and supported by leading German science organizations as well as the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, WiD works to strengthen the dialogue between science and society[2][3].
The mission of WiD is to shape societal change with knowledge and to promote an open, democratic society. WiD is committed to broad and inclusive science communication that reaches people of all ages and educational backgrounds. The organization advocates for the fascination of research among children, adolescents, and young adults and supports scientists in explaining their research work to a wide audience[2][3].
WiD is committed to sustainable and inclusive science communication that discusses socially relevant research topics on a broad basis. A central goal is to ignite fascination for research and inspire young people for scientific career opportunities. Furthermore, WiD works on promoting discourse-sensitive health communication and addressing science hostility through special support networks and strategies[2][5].
Current projects include the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Science Barometer, the premiere of the series Ein Kornfeld in der Jugend as part of the project mit:forschen, and the traveling exhibition Power2Change, which deals with the energy transition. Additionally, there is a new article series on the topics of freedom and responsibility in science communication[5].
Thus, WiD is a central actor in German science communication, contributing to bringing science and society closer together through innovative formats, comprehensive educational offerings, and strong networking.
