The
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Manuelle Medizin (DGMM e.V.) is a leading medical scientific society in Germany dedicated to the promotion and further development of Manual Medicine. It is part of the Association of Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF) and is actively involved in integrating this discipline into university teaching and daily medical care. With around 4,000 members – including doctors from the fields of orthopedics, trauma surgery, sports medicine, rehabilitation, pediatrics and pain therapy – the DGMM stands for the highest quality standards in research, further education and clinical practice.
The focus of the DGMM's activities is the promotion of manual diagnostics and treatment of functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The society continuously develops and updates scientifically based course programs and further training seminars, which are offered nationwide in all 16 federal states. The DGMM places particular emphasis on an interdisciplinary exchange with specialist areas such as neurophysiology and pain therapy in order to actively shape medical progress and promote evidence-based treatment methods.
The main mission of the DGMM is to establish manual medicine as an indispensable component of modern medicine. This includes the integration of specialist content into medical guidelines, implementation into the public-law fee schedule and quality-assured anchoring in medical training and further education. Under the leadership of Dr. Norman Best, the current president, the DGMM also advocates politically for the interests of manual medicine practitioners and promotes dialogue within the specialist areas and with medical institutions at a national and European level.
Another focus of the DGMM is the sustainable further development of manual procedures in the sense of a continuous improvement process. Through the combination of scientific research, clinical practice and high-quality training, the society contributes to the fact that manual medicine is increasingly used in various specialist disciplines – from orthopedics to pediatrics – and thus improves medical care.
The DGMM underlines its values through its commitment to quality, evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration and sustainable competence transfer. Sustainability goals are manifested in ensuring long-lasting progress in manual medicine through ongoing research, innovative teaching formats and the promotion of broad and nationwide access to further training opportunities.
In addition, the DGMM regularly organizes congresses and specialist events, such as the European Congress for Manual Medicine, in order to promote scientific exchange and make the latest findings accessible to a broad professional audience.
In short, the DGMM is a central driving force and reliable partner for doctors and medical professionals who want to advocate, qualify and further develop manual medicine – with the aim of sustainably improving medical care in Germany and further establishing manual medicine as a forward-looking discipline[1][2][4].
