    About Museum Frieder Burda

    Edit

The Museum Frieder Burda, located in Baden-Baden, is a museum for art of the 20th and 21st centuries. It was opened in 2004 and designed by the New York architect Richard Meier to blend harmoniously into the landscape of the Lichtentaler Allee Park while corresponding with the neighboring Staatliche Kunsthalle.

The museum presents high-caliber temporary exhibitions with international loans. Currently, the exhibition "Poetry of Light" with works by Richard Pousette-Dart, a pioneer of abstract expressionism, is being shown. Future exhibitions include "Impressionismus in Deutschland" with Max Liebermann and his time, as well as "Rivaling Reality", an examination of photorealism.

The Frieder Burda Collection comprises over 1,000 works, including masterpieces by Pablo Picasso, Max Beckmann, Ernst-Ludwig Kirchner, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz and Sigmar Polke.

The Museum Frieder Burda offers a diverse educational program for all age groups, including public and private tours, as well as special offers for children, young people and schools. The museum's art workshop also offers workshops and courses.

The museum values accessibility and offers special tours for seniors and people with disabilities. It is designated as a barrier-free building.

The Frieder Burda Foundation, which finances and operates the museum, was founded in 1998 to preserve the collection and make it accessible to the public. It was Frieder Burda's concern to share his passion for art with others and to give humanistic values a higher priority than material ones.

The Museum Frieder Burda sees itself as a place of encounter and exchange, which wants to give intellectual and emotional impulses through art in order to develop necessary visions for a common future.
