constellr builds and operates HiVE, a commercial constellation of thermal infrared satellites. Our cryocooled long-wave infrared instruments measure land surface temperature worldwide, helping agriculture, cities and industry make better decisions about water, climate and resources. We work closely with partners such as ESA, DLR, CNES and Airbus.

Your mission

Space and infrared technology is heavily regulated. As our Export Control Officer you own export compliance across the company. You report directly to the managing director who carries legal responsibility for export control (Ausfuhrverantwortliche/r), and you have the authority to stop any shipment or transfer that isn’t compliant.

What you’ll do

• Implement, run and improve our export control programme (Internal Compliance Programme, ICP) in line with BAFA guidance and the EU recommendation on compliance programmes (Recommendation (EU) 2019/1318)
• Classify our goods, software and technology under the EU Dual-Use Regulation (2021/821), the German export list (Ausfuhrliste) and, for US-origin content, US export rules (EAR/ITAR), including development, production and use technology (Entwicklungs-, Herstellungs- und Verwendungstechnologie)
• Maintain the Technology Master List and manage technical documents we receive from international partners (Airbus, CNES, ESA, DLR, suppliers), including their export markings and onward-transfer conditions
• Determine licence requirements, use EU and German general licences, and apply for and track licences via BAFA ELAN-K2
• Run sanctions and restricted-party screening, end-use and end-user checks, and red-flag assessments for customers, suppliers and partners
• Release shipments, data transfers, technical assistance, visits and business travel involving controlled items
• Support customs processes for satellite and instrument shipments, including launch campaigns abroad
• Train and advise Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales and HR teams and build a strong compliance culture
• Perform internal audits, keep records, manage corrective actions and act as our contact for BAFA, customs and partners’ export control teams
• Assess further regulatory topics such as the German satellite data security law (SatDSiG) together with management and external counsel

What you bring

• Degree in law, business, engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• 3+ years of hands-on export control experience, ideally in aerospace, defence, space or high-tech
• Solid knowledge of EU dual-use rules, German foreign trade law (AWG/AWV), EU sanctions and BAFA procedures; knowledge of US export rules (EAR/ITAR) is a strong plus
• Ability to understand technical documentation and discuss classification with engineers
• A structured, independent and pragmatic way of working, plus the confidence to say “stop” when needed
• Fluent German and English; French is a plus
• Certification or training through a recognised export control organisation (e.g. AWA, IHK or BAFA seminars) is an advantage
