Within its project-specific Diaspora Affairs division, the German Africa Foundation (DAS) acts as a strategic partner for the diaspora-driven project WIDU.africa. Through the establishment of a network of Diaspora Focal Persons, the DAS coordinates activities to raise awareness among African diaspora communities across Europe about funding opportunities for microenterprises in Africa.
The WIDU.africa project is implemented by GIZ on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is co-financed by the European Commission and the Gates Foundation.
WIDU.africa is a platform that provides grants and coaching to micro and small enterprises in ten African countries, including Ghana, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and The Gambia, while also drawing on financial contributions (remittances) from the African diaspora.
About DAS: The German Africa Foundation (DAS) is a nonpartisan foundation dedicated to the successful implementation of the German federal government’s Africa policy guidelines. As a facilitator, we offer a platform for partnership-based exchange between German and African stakeholders. In doing so, the foundation works closely with the African diaspora.
The DAS is seeking qualified diaspora representatives, known as “focal persons,” to support outreach, mobilization, and engagement activities within the Senegalese, Ivorian, Ghanaian, and Gambian diaspora communities in Europe.
