Professorship (W2) for Distributed Systems

to be filled at the earliest opportunity.

We are seeking an outstanding scholar with a strong track record in research and teaching in the field of distributed systems. The successful candidate will advance current and future concepts, technologies, and architectures for software and hardware solutions addressing the distributed processing of large-scale data as well as distributed computing in networked environments. In addition to contributing to fundamental research, the candidate is expected to address questions of practical relevance and applicability, for example in bioinformatics, artificial intelligence/data science, or medicine.

Applicants must hold an excellent doctoral degree in computer science or an equivalent qualification, demonstrate an internationally visible research profile in distributed systems, and have the ability to teach independently at the university level.

We offer an active and diverse academic environment with numerous opportunities for collaboration, particularly in the areas of bioinformatics/informatics for the natural sciences, intelligent systems, data science, and artificial intelligence. Through the Bielefeld Institute for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (BIBI), the Faculty is involved in a range of national and international consortia dedicated to the provision and further development of services and infrastructures for data-driven research in the life sciences, including de.NBI, ELIXIR, and NFDI. A corresponding infrastructure for data-driven research is currently being established at Bielefeld University (BiFoS). Active scholarly participation in these activities is expected. Further opportunities for cooperation exist at the CITEC research center and with the Medical Data Science Service Center and the Data Integration Center of the Medical School OWL.
